The Roots of Origin
The Origine story begins long before the brand was founded, with François and Olivier Bernard, two brothers, born in Grasse, France. Grasse, the world capital of perfume, is a place steeped in history where modern extraction techniques were born. It was here that the Bernard family collected rose and jasmine flowers for generations, forging a deep connection with the aromatic ingredients from a young age.
A childhood in the heart of the spice islands
Their childhood was spent in Sumatra, one of the famous Spice Islands of the Indonesian archipelago, renowned for their botanical riches by 18th-century Dutch merchants who considered them more precious than gold. In this enchanting setting, François and Olivier explored local markets and learned from farmers, discovering an incredible diversity of indigenous plants grown in harmony with nature. It was here that their deep respect for local producers, their families and communities took root, laying the foundations for an ethical business where value is added naturally at origin.
The awakening of vision
As the years went by, the brothers continued their adventure in Southeast Asia, particularly in Singapore, a crossroads of cultures and spices. In the 1980s, while François was helping his father harvest vanilla pods on the island of Bali, an idea took root in him. What if these treasures could be shared with the world? What if the quality and traceability of the products could be ensured from the field to the table? He realized that this vanilla, harvested with such care, could enchant palates on the other side of the globe, in California. But to do this, it was not enough to simply export a raw product. It was necessary to add value at the source, enriching each step of the process, so that each vanilla pod could tell the story of its land of origin.
The beginning of the adventure
With this vision in mind, François decided to partner with his brother Olivier, who was then working for a perfume and flavor company in Jakarta. Together, they created TRIPPER, a company dedicated to transforming spices directly at the source in Indonesia. Their mission was clear: to add value where it all began, respecting the land and those who cultivate it. Their company grew, driven by this philosophy of respect and quality, and their products crossed the oceans, bringing a piece of Indonesia to kitchens around the world.

In 2018, with decades of experience and an intact passion, the Bernard brothers launched Origine.
